What I’m about to share with you today are simple 6 skincare hacks that are often sometimes neglected or not thought about seriously but are very crucial to the well-being of our skin! These tips have personally worked wonders for me so wanted to share it with you all as well, in the hopes that it will benefit others. So, let’s dive right to it!
1) Drink lots of Water! –
The most obvious, the most talked about, and the best solution, yet most people don’t just drink enough! It not only does magic to your skin but flushes out all the toxins and bacteria from our bodies for a healthier living overall! To keep better tabs of drinking 8 glasses (2 litres) a day, I drink mine from a 1 litre bottle to ensure my intake and then I make it a point to get a refill and drink it up before the end of the day. Do anything you can to remind yourself of how much you’re drinking daily. There a various phone apps as well that you can download that may help you too. So, keep yourself hydrated and it’s guaranteed that your skin and body will thank you in the long run!
2) Turmeric Powder with Water-
Turmeric is a very renowned herb that is commonly used in Indian cooking. It contains a wide range of antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory properties. Due to all these factors, turmeric is often used to treat a wide variety of health problems, including cancer, diabetes, arthritis, etc. No surprise it is also marvellous for the skin! It clears acne, reduces pigmentation, but most importantly it is highly beneficial overall! It can also be used as a face mask, a skin brightener, and a deep cleanser but I will probably talk about that in detail in another blog post entirely.
Directions: Just take ½ tsp of turmeric and mix and stir it into your glass of water. If you do not prefer it in water, you can opt for drinking it in a glass of milk as well.
Usage: Once a week
3) Fruit and Veg Juices-
Load yourself up with leafy greens / yummy juicy fruits and simply cut them and blend them up and refresh your energy! These juicing recipes are a delicious and easy way to drink about a quarter of your daily recommended produce intake per glass, especially if you are picky with your fruits and veggies and wouldn’t eat them otherwise. This is a great way to mix your bitter vegetables with your sweet fruits and get incredible benefits that will make your skin glow! Cheers!
Fruits and Vegetables that are great for skin:
-Carrots, Cucumbers, Lemon, Beets, Tomatoes, Kale, Spinach, Ginger, Berries
4) Washing Your Pillow Cases and Bedsheets / Face and Shower Towels
I personally think that this is a very imperative step in maintaining a healthy skin! There’s oil and dirt accumulated from our skin and hair that rubs off onto our pillows and sheets if not washed weekly. Especially if you are one of those people who sleeps on their sides a lot, your skin would be in close contact with your pillow case for hours at night. The last thing you would wish for is getting all that bacteria build up in your face which could cause you to break out unnecessarily. This is something that you can easily avoid and on the bright side who doesn’t love getting into freshly washed bed sheets!? Similarly washing your shower and face towels is also vital to ensure a clean surface interaction with your skin! Wash them weekly to avoid blemishes and other skin problems.
5) Removing Makeup off your face-
When your day is hectic and you return home exhausted with little or no energy left, there may be a little voice in your head nudging you to go right to bed. As tempting as it may seem ladies but that’s when you DO NOT listen to that voice but instead head straight to the washroom to get all that dirt, oil, and makeup off your face! I for oneself do not see this as a demanding chore; I actually find it quite therapeutic and feel so exhilarated once my makeup is off at the end of the day! Ideally, you should remove your makeup before going to bed and refresh it when you wake up.
Not removing and cleansing the surface of your skin could lead to breakouts or cause your skin to age more rapidly. If you find that just using a facewash does not remove your makeup entirely, which may become more time consuming, it is always safer to first use a makeup remover wipe and then carry on with a face wash to really make sure that all your makeup is removed completely. Do not be lazy in this step people, because we all deserve good, healthy skin!
6) Washing your Makeup Brushes-
Failing to sanitize your makeup brushes/sponges is equally bad as neglecting to wash your face! Makeup, dirt, and bacteria gets concentrated on our brushes when we use them to layer our face with foundations, powders, bronzers, eye shadows, blushers etc. Washing them once a week will not only benefit your skin but will also maintain the longevity of your tools and will result in an easier application with a flawless look. Be sure to wash your brushes/sponges once a week, considering you apply makeup every day, so depending on how much makeup application is applied, wash them accordingly.
Hope these tips/hacks are useful and if there are any other manageable hacks that any of you follow, please comment and share below to benefit the well-being of others!
