I didn’t realize how much I loved the NARS matte lip pencils until I received it in my Sephora beauty insider gift. I had purchased and used the NARS lip liners before but rediscovered my love for it recently when I got it again!
Cruella ($26.00) – This rich, velvet deep red is my absolute favorite! It is a perfect wear for the fall and winter seasons. I feel like the color red now has become such a general mundane color that it can be worn at any time of the day or week as opposed to just night outs. I personally fancy matte lipsticks; they suit me and my skin tone very well so this is definitely something I will be wearing delightfully very often. The consistency of this pencil is thick and creamy and is not drying to your lips which is a great plus! It lasts a good couple of hours so retouching this lip pencil is not needed frequently.
Rikugien ($25.00) – This is somewhat a corally pink shade that has a satin finish to it. If you’re not too much into the matte lipsticks, this is surely a great buy! It layers up well on your lips without drying it and lasts really long! It does have a slight shine to it so it would be great for parties and everyday wear as well. The color is nice and subtle so if you’re slightly intimidated by the rich dark colors that NARS is usually known for then this would be a great start! This color would pair really well with an intense eye makeup and is great for all occasions throughout all seasons of the year.
Volga ($27.00) – This particular NARS pure matte lipstick I purchased is in the shade Volga, which is an intense dark purplish-reddish color that can be built up or lessoned due to your preference. I was in search for something very dramatic yet chic and elegant at the same time. Even though I found the perfect color I was looking for, unfortunately this lipstick was a little too drying on my lips. For the amount of price I paid for it, I was a little disappointed by its outcome. After an hour or so of wearing it, it would seep into my cracks and gather in certain sections which I think is hideous and did not like the look of that. The fact that I was so fond of the color, I did not return it but instead now I use a moisturized lipstick at the base of my lips first and then apply the Volga on top of it. Doing so is not that bad and isn’t so drying, so in the end I still use this lipstick but never by itself.
Overall, I adore NARS products in general. I love the different variety of shades and choices they provide but just wish that their pure matte lipsticks are a bit more moisturizing, for all the matte lovers out there!
